The Mistnet Service: The ABSA Mistnet service is run primarily and preferentially as a service to Association members however appropriately credentialed and authorized non members may also purchase items from the service.
Mistnets not listed can also be supplied to special order as we act as an agency for Ecotone and Spidertech.
Variation to Prices: The Association attempts to maintain stable prices, but reserves the right to vary prices without notice. Import costs vary as a result of increases in manufacturer's wholesale prices and fluctuations in exchange rates. ALL PRICES ARE IN AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS. ALL PRICES INCLUDE GST (Goods and Services Tax) Note: GST is not payable on export sales. Prospective buyers from outside Australia should contact the Mist Net Service managers for non-GST prices.
Postage & Packaging and Courier Services: Postage and packaging costs are not included in the above prices. High valued orders may be forwarded by Registered Post. Courier services can be arranged at the purchaser's cost.
Discount: The service is established principally to support private financial members of the Australian Bird Study Association Inc. who receive a discount of approximately 10% on the non member price of mist nets, scales, callipers, rulers and pliers. Equipment is also available for purchase at a commercially competitive rate by appropriately credentialed commercial and institutional organizations.
No discount is available on colour bands, accessories, bulk netting, net repair equipment, field data cards, bird holding bags, computer disks or magazines.
Orders for Mist Nets: The sale of mist nets is restricted to persons or organisations engaged in research. Orders for mist nets must include a signed and dated certification that the nets will be used for research purposes only and should include the Australian Bird and Bat Banding Schemes (ABBBS) Authority Number of the purchaser. For orders placed by government departments and institutions, the Authority number of the principal researcher should be provided as well as the above-mentioned certification. Orders for mist nets cannot be accepted over the phone.
Customers from outside Australia must supply documentary evidence of their authority to use mist nets in their own country. The Australian Bird Study Association reserves the right to decline to supply mist nets to potential customers and to impose conditions regarding their use and subsequent disposal if they are supplied. These restrictions are designed to prevent mist nets being supplied to anyone who has not been trained in their use or who wishes to use nets to catch birds for sale or for control measures.
Payment (within Australia): Please do not send payment with order. Invoices will be issued after dispatch and will include actual packaging & postage / courier costs. Terms of payment are 30 days net.

Nets of 25mm mesh are 50 Denier 2 ply Nylon, 31mm and 38mm are provided in 70 denier 2 ply Polyester, the 63mm are 110denier 2ply Nylon.

Colour Bands:Colour bands are available only in multiples of 10 of each colour.

Note 1: Colour bands should be stored in a cool place, not left in the sun, or in cars, sheds etc exposed to the sun or high temperatures. Bands may otherwise become brittle and/or colours may fade.
Note 2: Re supplies of Colour Bands - September 2001
A.C. Hughes, the suppliers of colour bands, has advised that they are running out of Celluloid. They say it is no longer manufactured anywhere so, as stocks run out, they will replace each colour with another plastic. As far as they know, Darvic is the only suitable plastic available in a good range of colours, so unless they find a replacement material, all bands will eventually be Darvic. Hughes would be pleased to be informed of alternatives to Darvic as a Celluloid replacement. They say they still have good stocks of most remaining single colours and large stocks of most multi-coloured material. No yellow Celluloid bands have been produced in some sizes for about two years and all Celluloid yellow band production ceased last year.
Note 3: There is sometimes a difference in colour between Celluloid and Darvic bands, with the Celluloid colour being darker in both Light Blue and Light Green, and lighter in Orange.
Sizes 1 to 6 are available as split bands only and applicators are supplied at no extra cost for ease of attachment. Sizes 7 to 15 are available in coil form only.
One-colour bands are available in the following materials and colours. Single colour bands can be purchased in minimum lots of ten bands in any one colour/size combination:

Multi-coloured bands(two colours per band) are available in sizes 1 to 6 only:
Multi-coloured bands are manufactured in two different types as described below. Because of their high cost and relatively infrequent demand, stocks are not generally held by the Mist Net Service. Stock is purchased from the UK manufacturer to fill a specific order to the MNS. Orders must be for at least 10 of each colour combination in each size. Delivery can take up to three months from placement of order. The price of multi-coloured bands is between two and three times that of single-colour bands of the same size.
Narrow-striped bands(eg white/black/white/black) are available only in the following combinations:
White with:Black, Red and Dark Green
Dark Blue with:White, Yellow and Light Pink
Black with:Light Pink and Light Green
Light Green with:Dark Green and Light Pink
Broad-striped bands(eg top half white, bottom half black) are available in the following combinations:
